ZOMBA (Maravi Post)—Chancellor College, a constituent college of the University of Malawi, has threatened to sue one of the country’s online publication, Nyasa Times, for defaming pretty girls.According to Student’s Women Director Esther Bonyongwa, the publication recently carried a story on an alleged demonstration by Prostitutes in Nkhotakota district. The story claimed that the Prostitutes were not happy that Ministry of Health officials are stealing condoms from the hospitals and are ending up selling when they (Prostitutes) are supposed to access them free of charge.
“The Problem in this story is that the publication used a picture of our young ladies who were socializing on campus and captioned it as the prostitutes who were protesting,”
“This is defamation calculated at dwindling the value of these young girls on a possible future marriage market,” said a visibly concerned Bonyongwa.
She disclosed that they are considering filing defamation charges if Nyasa Times won’t retract the picture and issue an apology.
“We have brought our concern to the attention of the Editor of this publication. We hope that they will be civilized enough and clarify to their readers on the wrong usage this picture. If they won’t cooperate, then we will have no choice but to file defamation charges in Court,” said the representative of the female students at the College.
