
MAHARASHTRA-(MaraviPost)-Ten newborns were killed on Saturday in a massive fire at a hospital in Maharashtra, India’s richest state.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi confirmed the tragedy on Saturday, January 9.
Narendra Modi on twitter said, “Heart-wrenching tragedy in Bhandara, Maharashtra, where we have lost precious young lives.
“Heart-wrenching tragedy in Bhandara, Maharashtra, where we have lost precious young lives”.
A report by Reuters indicated that the massive blaze broke out around 2am on Saturday at the hospital in Maharashtra in Care Unit for newborns.
According to the civil surgeon at Bhandara District General Hospital Pramod Khandate, the care unit had about 17 infants the time of the incident and seven were rescued.
Other reports revealed that the victims of the inferno were between one and three months old.
Several other politicians in the country including the opposition leader Rahul Gandhi have expressed their grief.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thakre has ordered a probe into the incident.
