
MWANZA-(MaraviPost)-The Malawi court in the border and southern district of Mwanza on Friday sentenced a 34 year-old man to eight years in jail with hard labor for defiling an eight year-old girl.
Mwanza Police Station Spokesperson Edwin Kaunda told The Maravi Post that the convict Thomas Fabiano committed the crime on June this year at around 19:00 hours at Gwiremchira village in the district.
According to police publicist Kaunda, the court head that on this fateful day Fabiano went to the victim’s house where the victim was playing at the veranda with her sister.
Kaunda said when the convict learnt that the girls’ mother-Lucy Banda was not around; Thomas took advantage of her absence eventually pushed one of girls down, undressed and defiled her.
“After finishing the act, the convict threatened the girls not to disclose the incident to anyone. However, upon their mother’s arrival home, was surprised hearing her daughters crying.
“The mother was dully informed that Thomas defiled one of them. Thereafter, Lucy took the daughter to Mwanza police where they were further referred to Mwanza District Hospital which confirmed that the girl was indeed defiled,” explained Kaunda.
Police Publicist Kaunda said Thomas was arrested on the following day and appeared before Mwanza First Grade Magistrate Court on June 8 this year.
“Although he pleaded not guilty to the charge of defilement, the police prosecutor Sub/Inspector Jane Juma paraded four witnesses against Thomas. Consequently, His worship Ranwell Mangazi found Fabiano guilty and sentenced him to eight years with hard labor,” said Kaunda.
Fabiano hails from Fayiti Village, Traditional Authority (T.A) Nthache in Mwanza district.
