LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Homeland Security who is also Leader of the House in Malawi Parliament Richard Chimwendo Banda on Monday, March 1, 2021 failed to give a convincing reasons as to why Tonse administration is unable to implement cheaper passports promises.

Instead Chimwendo Banda blamed former governing Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) government for signing an exorbitant contract with an unnamed firm to supply 800,000 passports at US$60 million.

The minister failed to tell Parliament how long will the contract take which Malawi government signed with Techno Brain.

Chimwendo also was gagged as to why the passport promise was made without thorough consultation.

World Bank last year expelled Techno Brain Malawi for dubious contract deals.

A head of June 23, 2020 Presidential elections, Tonse Alliance leaders including President Lazarus Chakwera and vice Saulos Chilima promised to provide passports at lower price of MK14,000.00.

End of 2019 DPP led government raised normal passport prices from MK48,000.00 to MK85,000.00.
