MONGU- (MaraviPost)-President Hakainde Hichilema is expected to officiate at this year’s Kuomboka Traditional Ceremony of the Lozi people in Western Province, a celebration that promises to showcase the rich cultural heritage of Zambia.
The ceremony is scheduled to take place on Saturday, March 28, 2026, as announced by Western Province Permanent Secretary Simomo Akapelwa during a press briefing at the Provincial Administration in Mongu.
Security is expected to be tight, with Western Province Police Commanding Officer Rae Hamoonga assuring the public of heightened security measures to ensure the safety of all participants and visitors.

This ancient tradition, dating back 300 years, marks the beginning of the dry season and is a testament to the resilience and adaptability of the Lozi people.
The ceremony is not just a cultural spectacle but also an important economic driver for the local community, attracting visitors from across the country and abroad.
President Hichilema has emphasized the importance of cultural preservation and encouraged citizens to cherish and celebrate their diverse traditions.
As the nation comes together to celebrate this iconic event, the Kuomboka Ceremony serves as a powerful reminder of Zambia’s rich cultural heritage and its people’s unity and resilience.
