…..HRDC ready to meet Mutharika on “Any serious national concerns”…..

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-The country’s Human Rights Defenders Coalition (HRDC) says the Amaryllis Hotel purchase saga is litmus test for President Peter Mutharika’s government committed against corruption.

The grouping therefore expect Mutharika to act with urgency not not only words along including suspending or firing those involved in the saga.

Addressing the news conference in the capital Lilongwe on Friday, March 20, 2026, HRDC described the controversial sale of Amaryllis Hotel, as a test on the country’s capacity in handling corruption.

HRDC Chairperson Michael Kaiyatsa, says if mishandled, the matter can promote the culture of impunity.

“We are giving President Mutharika to act urgently those involved in the saga to set a precedence on fight against corruption.

“Words alone from Mutharika is not enough without actions on emerging serious corruption tendencies on hotel matter”, observes Kaiyatsa.

HRDC therefore disclosed that is ready to meet Mutharika on any serious matters of national concerns.

The grouping however faulted the Ministry of Finance and the Financial Intelligence Authority as well as the Anti- Corruption Bureau for delaying to investigate the matter.

FIA is being accused of failing to detect suspicious financial transactions on time.

The ACB has been faulted for not taking action when red flags were available.

The grouping also disclosed that is ready to testify before Public Affairs Committee (PAC) on Amaryllis Hotel purchase probe.
