LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-The friendly match between Malawi and Mali was called off on Tuesday, January 4, 2022 due to COVID-19 cases registered in Mali’s Camp.

This means that the match against Comoros Island which Flames won by two goals to one last week Friday,will be the only International friendly for the Malawi National football team in Jeddah Saudi Arabia a head of AFCON finals in YAOUNDÉ CAMEROON.

Football Association of Malawi Communications Manager Gomezgani Zakazaka has confirmed about the development.

Zakazaka announced that Flames will leave Saudi Arabia on Wednesday, January 5, 2022 to Yaoundé Cameroon via Addis Ababa Ethiopia and will be joined by three players who are still in Malawi namely;Chimwemwe Idana,Charles Thom and Gomezgani Chirwa who will leave the country Tuesday through Chileka Airport for Addis Ababa to accompany their friends enroute to Cameroon.

Simba FC winger Peter Banda is expected to leave Dar es Salaam tomorrow to link up with the team at Bora International Airport in Addis Ababa where they will connect to Duwara,Cameroon.

Players who have failed to made it into the final squad due to different reasons have started flying back to their respective bases,Schumacher Kuwali who got injured, Paul Ndolvu, Nickson Mwase,Stain Davie and Brighton Munthali left Jeddah on Monday, January 3 for Lilongwe, Malawi while Henry Kumwenda will be heading back to Manchester in the United Kingdom and Gerald Phiri Jnr will be heading to Khartoum,Sudan.

Malawi is in group B alongside Zimbabwe, Guinea and Senegal in the Continental showpiece, they are expected to start the journey on January, 10 against Guinea.
