BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-The Former Malawi President Peter Mutharika will not travel to Lilongwe for the funeral of Former First Lady, Madame Annie Chidzira Muluzi on January, January 5, 2022.
In a statement signed by opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP)’s spokesperson Shadrick Namalomba, says George Chaponda will represent the DPP President and the DPP while the Former First Lady, Madame Getrude Mutharika will represent the Former President and the Mutharika family.
The announcement has sparked debate in the social media platforms that Mutharika after hearing that t Kondwani Nankhumwa whom he accused of using his brothers Professor Bingu wa Mutharika’s poster to endorse him as a DPP Presidential candidate, is attending the funeral service.
Former Malawi leader Mutharika is on record that as having not made himself in public attending funeral services since voted out of power on 23rd June 29, 2020 in a court sanctioned Fresh Presidential Elections making others to think that he is not adapting to Malawian culture of mourning one another.
The body of late Former First Lady, Annie Chidzira Muluzi arrived in the country 0n Tuesday, January 4, 2022 through Kamuzu International Airport in Lilongwe from Kenya.
The late First lady died after a long battle with cancer at Aga Khan Hospital in Nairobi, it was taken to Muluzi’s residence in Area 3-Lilongwe for a vigil.
Burial of the late Former First Lady, Annie Chidzira will take place at Msinja-Malingunde her home on Thursday, 5th January, 2022.
President Lazarus Chakwera will lead the Malawi nation in paying the last respect to the departed soul of Annie Chidzira Muluzi who played a pivotal role helping her husband, Dr. Bakili Muluzi to fight one-party dictatorship to multiparty politics and democracy in 1994.
