LILONGWE (MaraviPost) — The Malawi National Examinations Board (Maneb) has confirmed the arrest of another secondary school teacher in Malawi’s capital Lilongwe for helping out his students whilst exams were in progress.

Maleface Tambala of Dzenza Mission Secondary School is currently being held at Kanengo Police Station, Maneb publicist Simeon Maganga said.

Last week a head teacher in Malawi’s commercial capital of Blantyre was also arrested for a similar malpractice.

Cheating during examinations in Malawi is a crime punishable by law, and any teacher found guilty is expected to pay K300,000, plus ten years in prison, while any student convicted of cheating pays K50,000 plus two years in prison.

Before commencement of this year’s examinations, MANEB announced new stringent security measures, warning that anyone caught doing examination malpractice would face the law.

MANEB has once again called upon the public to work with it in curbing examination malpractices by reporting any cases of cheating to the board, police or Anti-Corruption Bureau.
