Police have arrested a woman after her newborn baby girl was discovered with rusty knife sticking out of her back in the city of Posadas in the north-eastern Argentine province of Misiones.

The baby believed to be two days old was rescued by a passer-by named Diego Sebastian who upon hearing the baby’s cries from a black plastic bin bag rushed to her rescue.

Report by Daily Star news indicates that the infant had been stabbed multiple times with rusty blade still sicking out of her back when the 31-year-old personal trainer discovered her.

The ‘Miracle’ baby was rushed to the nearby police station and was later rushed to the hospital.

Doctors at the Maternal Neonatal Hospital said in an interview that they were shocked when the baby arrived at the hospital with multiple stab wounds and a rusty blade still sicking out of the baby’s back.

In an interview with David Halac, administrator at the hospital he said the baby is currently breathing unaided but still being treated with strong antibiotics to reduce the risk of infection.

He added that the hospital is in no rush to discharge the baby until the legal situation of the child’s guardianship is resolved.

Police have not yet disclosed whether the little girl’s mother will face charges or not but they have disclosed that investigations are underway to established what happened prior to the baby’s discovery.
