BLANTYRE(MaraviPost)–Carlsberg Cup champions Big Bullets have been booted out the K28 million Standard Bank Cup after conceding a defeat at the hands of Airborne Rangers through post match penalties at Civo Stadium in Lilongwe on Saturday.
Diverson Mlozi, who put Bullets on the lead in the 7th minute, was the one responsible for the Bullets’ defeat as he missed the 9th spot kick.
Coming from Carlsberg Cup victory over Zomba United, Bullets started the game well with Victor Limbani, Fischer Kondowe and James Chilaponda cordinating well.
But Airborne came with fresh ideas in the second half. They came wave after wave in the Bullets’ half and goalkeeper Vincent Gona was a busy person in the field of play.
Constant pressure piled on Bullets saw its defenders losing confidence and Airborne scored an equalizer.
After 90 minutes, referee Mabvuto Msimuko had no option but to point on penalty spot.
Airborne scored all the 9 spot kicks but Bullets’ Mlozi saw his spot kick being saved by Airborne Goalkeeper, thereby sending BB fans into cathedral of silence.
Bullets really missed the services of Owen Chaima during this difficult time as their goalkeeper Gona proved to be bad at penalties by conceding all the 9 spot kicks.
Airborne will meet their brothers in arm, Mafco, in the quarter finals of the prestigious cup.
