Cameroonian mayor Prisley Ojong killed by his native village rebels

Cameroon rebels set ablaze houses

MAMFE-(MaraviPost)-A 35-year-old Mayor of Mamfe area that is located around 500 km (300 miles) from the capital in the southwest of the country has been killed in ambush on Sunday by a group of rebels.

The country’s state broadcaster, Cameroon Radio Television (CRTV) confirmed this on Sunday, May 10, 2020.

A report by Reuters revealed that Ashu Prisley Ojong was assassinated when his convoy came under gunfire from Anglophone separatist fighters and two other soldiers were wounded in the attack.

He is one of the first senior elected official to be killed in the conflict between Cameroon’s army and English-speaking militias.

Ashu Prisley Ojong was elected mayor of Mamfe on February 25 2019 on the ruling Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement (CPDM).
