KARONGA, (MaraviPost iReport): The Catholic Commission for Justice and Peace (CCJP) in the Diocese of Karonga the northern part of Malawi, has express worry over the increase of insecurity in the district claiming that it has affected most of the developmental projects as well as the living standards of the residents in the district.

Speaking during the meeting, CCJP district Desk Officer Mwayi Shaba described the current living standard in Karonga as a hell especially because lives of people are at risk due to fortnight criminals.

According to Shaba, the security providers should pull up their socks in order to protect the lives and properties of the citizens which are currently on stuck.

“As an organization that deals with justice and peace, we are much concerned with the issues of insecurity in the district which has now become an order of the day. Imagine each and every day people are being injured, some lose their lives as well as properties due to the malpractice,” worried Shaba.

“The hell like environment that Karonga residents are living in today is due to lack of seriousness of the security providers which includes the law enforcers as well as police community. Therefore, we urge them to work up and provide full protection to the people and their properties in order to reduce mob justice,” said Shaba.

He further said “apart from the people losing their properties, the issue at hand is jeopardizing developmental projects in the district as well as providing bad environment to the investors.”

Responding to the Karonga Police Deputy Spokesperson George Mlewa said “as police we are doing everything to make sure that there’s security and peace in the district, however, we are asking the community to work hand in hand because security issues needs collaboration.\.”
