Chakwera pushes for African-Caribbean trade cooperation

ABUJA-(MaraviPost)-President Lazarus Chakwera is pushing for trade cooperation between Caribbean and African countries.

Chakwera made an appeal the just ended African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) annual meeting in Abuja, Nigeria.

Writing on his Facebook page, the Malawi leader writes, “The African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) continues to be a key partner for Malawi in strengthening our foundation for inclusive and sustainable development.

“During one of the sessions at the ongoing Annual Meetings of the bank, I joined serving and former African and Caribbean Heads leaders in discussing the role of African multilateral financial institutions on development”.

Chakwera adds, “Further to this, we also shared insights on how Africa and the Caribbean can thrive within a fractured global order that largely serves the interests of super powers.

“We all share similar sentiments on the need to adopt bold policy directions that strengthen cooperation on trade and investment for countries on the Global South axis”.

Opportunistic The Malawi leader, “A unified voice and strategic financing are keys that will open our opportunities to transform our communities through profitable trade, jobs and wealth creation”.

Chakwera is expected to return home on Sunday, June 29, 2025.
