LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-In a dramatic turn of events, a bloody fight broke out at Kamuzu Palace on Thursday afternoon.

The conflict erupted when a group of unruly youth, known locally as anyamata achilope azikwanje, turned against party officials during a farewell gathering.

The outgoing President Lazarus Chakwera reportedly fled the scene as Malawi Congress Party (MCP) Secretary General Richard Chimwendo and Chief of Staff Kapondamgaga were ruthlessly beaten.

Dickson Kashoti, a member of the party media team, along with other party dignitaries, was seen running into the bush to escape the violence.

The chaos began when Chakwera called for a farewell meeting with party loyalists at Kamuzu Palace.

Two lorries carrying anyamata azikwanje arrived at the palace gate and were permitted to enter the marquee where the meeting was taking place.

These individuals, however, had not been invited to the event.

Chakwera addressed the gathering and explained, “I decided that we should meet for a proper farewell as we go into opposition.”

At that moment, someone in the crowd stood up and demanded that Chakwera pay each of them K50 million for their contributions.

He shouted, “Bwana ife mwatigwiritsa ntchito zamagazi. Ndiye mwatiluzitsa boma. Tamenyedwa ndi a MDF tili m’boma inu mmangoyang’ana.”

The entire marquee fell silent as party members were stunned by the audacity of the demand.

Chakwera appeared visibly uncomfortable as he tried to address the situation.

The protester continued, “Bwana, tikupita opanda kanthu pamene anthu alemela mchipani muno. Ndiye ife tikupempha kuti mutipatse MK50 million aliyense muno.”

The crowd erupted in shouts and applause, seemingly supporting the demand.

Chakwera, however, avoided responding directly and attempted to calm the gathering.

Silence eventually returned, and the meeting concluded without further incident.

But once the attendees began leaving, the anyamata achilope initiated a violent attack.

They targeted party officials, advancing toward Chakwera, who was quickly escorted to safety by his security detail.

Chimwendo and Kapondamgaga were caught in the melee and subjected to repeated beatings.

Several other political figures were similarly attacked, while some were seen fleeing into the surrounding bush to escape the violence.
