It is a 500-acre game park, includes an international standard 9 hole golf course, and is home to over a dozen different species of wildlife including Zebra, Giraffe, Kudu, Sable and Roan. They call it, and it is one of Malawi’s most unique and spectacular retreats.
A project that has spanned almost 20 years has now been completed, resulting in a stunning resort for all to enjoy. This is no single night stop-over, or a place to call in just for lunch out of interest. With so much on offer a week’s stay can fly by, with enough activities to keep you busy throughout.
The site itself is steeped in history, and this transformation of land has only happened through sheer dedication, hard work, and serious investment. The beauty of Chimwenya Game Park is not just its charm, wildlife, and opportunity, but also its Malawian heritage.
Wildlife: The 500 acre Chimwenya Game park is surrounded by a perimeter fencing, protecting wildlife from the outside. A dozen different species live in the sanctuary, as well as an abundance of birdlife and smaller creatures. Home to two very nosy giraffe, herds of Sable & wildebeest and many types of antelope there’s plenty to look at – not just on game drive, but even as you step out of your chalet – they often come that close!
Golf Course: Designed by the renowned South African Peter Matkovich the course starts just metres away rom the Clubhouse near the lodge, extending through the landscape in and amongst the wildlife. With giraffe following your every move and zebra peering through the bushes, this is truly a unique golf experience.
Lake Bvumbwe: At 170 Million litres this is a fully stocked dam with Bass & Tilapia (Bream), perfect for the keen fisherman. The water comes from a natural stream, and so also makes a brilliant place to cool off in the summer. Fitting perfectly within the landscape you wouldn’t know it was man made, and nor does the wildlife as they come to the waters edge to drink. Fishing and braaing (bar-b-q) or swimming at Nswala Malo lounge bar at Lake Bvumbwe or just relax there by a roaring fire as the mist rolls in, enjoying sundowners with friends and be at one with the wildlife strolling by.
Get Active!: The Chimwenya Game Park is huge, and during your stay you’re unlikely to see all of it! If you fancy getting out and about, you can explore the area on foot or even on mountain bike. You’ll be accompanied by an experienced guide, who makes sure both you and the wildlife are safe.
For Kids: Game Haven is perfect for all the family, and in 2013 a dedicated area for the younger members was built. Mwana Park is kitted out with all the latest playground equipment, and is supervised by a team of trained staff. There’s also a nanny service available if required.
Accommodation and the lodge: Built from the golden coloured rock found on the very ground it’s built on, the main lodge is a wonderful place to spend the evenings watching the sunset. The Ambrosia Restaurant has an exciting choice of international cuisine as well as a few Malawian classics. Just by the lodge is clear blue swimming pool with cascading waterfall, for those who prefer a good book in the sun lounger. The property has 5 Luxury cottages, 20 spacious executive rooms and 3 self catering houses, all are en-suite.
