Karonga, December 31, 2018: The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Blue League, Songwe Border chapter, has donated a K2.6 million house to 68-year-old destitute woman in T/A Mwakaboko, Karonga.
Speaking after handing over the house Saturday, DPP Blue League national vice chairperson, Benart Meke said the youth were pathetic with Rosemary Ngomba’s living condition.
“The woman was living in a dilapidated tent with her three grandchildren,” said Meke.
He said time has come for youth in the country to support elderly people in different ways, and stop accusing them of practicing witchcraft.
He urged the youth to refuse being used by politicians in violence as the country nears 2019 Tripartite Elections.
“Youths are future leaders. If we chose to destroy our reputation now, people will never trust us in future. So we need to be very careful,” he said.
Speaking after she received the house, Ngomba thanked the DPP Blue League for bailing her out of miserable condition.
“I am grateful to your generosity. Words can’t express my appreciation. I used to sleep in that tent with my three grandchildren, life was hard indeed.
“This beautiful house marks a new chapter in my life and my grandchildren. Thank you very much,” said Ngomba.
