BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)—Ndirande residents spoiled the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) and United Democratic Front (UDF) jovial mood as they shouted at the President Peter Mutharika’s convoy with others pelting stones at the DPP-UDF parade.
Mutharika, soon after presenting his nomination papers to the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) today afternoon, proceeded with a parade with his partner Atupele Muluzi in the streets of Blantyre just like the MCP-UTM candidates did yesterday.
However, residents of Ndirande did not hide their anger over unfulfilled promises by the DPP administration in the past six years as they chanted “Pitala achoke (Peter must go),” thus forcing the President and his running mate to change vehicles and divert.
The Police had to use teargas to disperse the angry people.
Ironically, southern region is the stronghold of the ruling DPP and the incident comes with only two months before the fresh presidential election which is scheduled to take place on July 2.
