FAM for smooth Central Region second tier league

By Edwin Mbewe

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-The Football Association of Malawi (FAM) through it’s chief, Fleetwood Haiya, have asked the Central Region football governing body to run the 2024 Chipiku Premier league season smoothly.

Haiya made the call on Sunday, 28th April 2024 at Dowa Community ground where he presided over the launch of the league.

“I am very thankful as FAM, as we have launched the Central regional league today. First of all, let me thank sponsors Chipiku Stores for being with us for over seventeen years.

“To teams who have registered to participate in the league this season, we don’t want to hear them failing to fulfill fixtures as this compromises the smooth running of the game”, says Haiya.

The Football Association of Malawi (FAM) Chief further appealed to all regional leagues to align their calendars with that of Super League and FAM so that they come to completion together.

He has also, emphasized the significance of introducing the National Division League, where winners from the three regions, CRFA, NRFA and SRFA will be playing against each other so that we should be producing elite league candidates who will withstand the heat and never be relegated the same year.

Chipiku Stores regional administrative Manager, Brown Mkangama was overwhelmed that the league has been launched.

“We have launched the league in Dowa where we have our shops, we are very happy, as Chipiku we are expecting to witness a huge competition amongst the teams. My message to all participating teams is that, they should put a hard working heart and consider it as their future”, explains Mkangama.

In his remarks, Central Region Football Association General Secretary, Antonio Manda said for the first time the body have developed a calendar of events which will guide them through the season.

To make sure that the league is aligned with the Football Association of Malawi Calendar, the games will be played twice in a week, midweek and weekend.

Manda revealed that, they have set 31st December 2024 as the date of concluding the league.

The event was also attended by the Malawi Police Commissioner responsible for Research and Planning, Barbra Tsiga, CRFA Chairman Austin Ajawa and his deputy Goodall Chinjoka.

As part of the activities lined up on the day, Blue Eagles battered Dzaleka Future 4-0 with goals from Tonic Viyuyi (a brace), Schumacher Kuwali and Ganizani James to start the TNM Super league return campaign on a high note.

Twenty-four teams are to participate in the league and have been divided into three groups of eight.

Top four teams from each group will qualify to the last twelve teams where the overall winner will earn Super league promotion.
