BEIARN-(MaraviPost)-At least four US troops have died when a plane taking part in an annual exercise crashed in Norway.

Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store confirmed the news on twitter on Saturday, March 19, 2022.

According to Reuters, the four were taking part in the Cold Response military exercises involving 30,000 troops from NATO and partner countries together with 200 other planes and some 50 ships from 27 countries.

US Soldiers die

The V-22B Osprey belonging to the US Marine Corps went down in a remote region on early on Saturday.

The plane crashed in Gråtådalen, Beiarn, around 30 miles (50km) south of Bodø and reports indicate the helicopters were unable to land due to poor weather conditions.

The exercise began on 14 March and is due to end on 1 April.

An investigation was launched into the crash but it has been hampered by bad weather.

The first Cold Response exercise was held in 2006, and the drills have been conducted eight times over the years. They take place in southeastern, central and northern Norway.

Cold Response 2022 aims to test how Norway would manage allied reinforcements on its soil in the event that NATO’s mutual defence clause was triggered.
