Fresh calls for embattled MEC chair Ansah’s resignation

Young Pastors Network (YPN) leadership

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Fresh calls have been made again for the embattled Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) Chairperson Jane Ansah to resign over mismanagement of May 21 polls.

Young Pastors Network (YPN) made the calls on Friday arguing that Ansah’s resignation will settle political tension underway in the country.

The grouping told the news conference in the capital Lilongwe that it was illogical for MEC to announce the elections winner amid unresolved queries.

The network therefore emphasized the need for the nation to wait patiently outcome of the ongoing presidential case in the constitutional court.

The grouping’s president and Secretary Webster Kameme and Felix Mbeye urged political leaders to embrace the spirit of dialogue while desist from provocation.

“Malawi is on fire. It needs a healing water to cool the temper that has engulfed the nation following the disputed May 21 polls.

“We are still demanding MEC chair Ansah’s resignation as the only way now to ease the political tension while waiting patiently the outcome of the election case underway in court”, urges Kameme.

Established in 2018, the grouping has a membership of 200 drawn from Christian churches in Malawi.

The fresh calls come amid stunting Malawi Congress Party (MCP) witness Daud Suleman revelation that MEC used ghost user to approve election results.

Suleman told the court on Friday that commission’s officials used personal emails to transmit approved result against ICT international standards.

The case resumes tomorrow Monday when MCP witness will go through cross-examination.

  1. What the hell is this again? The woman said she would resign after the court’s determination, simple. If you say the woman should resign and the same time advise people to ”wait patiently for the outcome of the ongoing presidential case in the constitutional court” then you do not know what you are talking about. Just shut up and concentrate on you healing water.
