BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)—Malawi’s Vice President Saulos Chilima has disclosed that he will be the finance minister in the Lazarus Chakwera’s cabinet if the Tonse Alliance emerges victorious in the forthcoming fresh presidential election slated for 23 June.

Chilima made the remarks at Njamba Feedom Park today during a mega rally by all the Tonse Alliance partners.

“Some have been asking where will we get the money for different projects we are promising. I want to tell you that there is money in government but it is being misused by the corrupt politicians. This will not happen under the leadership of Lazarus Chakwera.

“As a matter of fact, I will be the finance minister as per our agreement. My office will be different from the previous ones as I will work hand in hand with Chakwera,” he said.

Taking his turn, Lazarus Chakwera, who is the torchbearer of the ‘grand’ alliance, concurred with Chilima saying his leadership will not misuse the government resources.

“What Chilima said is true. Much of the collected money in form of taxes goes to state house instead of account number one. This will not happen once we take over the leadership from the corrupt and clueless DPP come 23 June.

“Chilima has a good track of record in the private sector. He will definitely help in revamping the economy of this country which has been in abyss due to corruption and thievery by the DPP leadership,” Chakwera said.

Malawians will vote in a fresh presidential poll on June 23 after the Supreme Court of Appeal upheld the decision of the Constitutional Court to nullify the May 21 2019 presidential election due to massive irregularities.
