NAIROBI-(MaraviPost)-A Kenyan Member of Parliament (MP) has been arrested for holding a public gathering contrary to Covid-19 guidelines.

MP Charles Ong’ondo Were was arrested on Tuesday evening, July 21, 2020 and detained at a police station.

The MP was said to have been chairing a meeting at his village home when members of the public expressed concern and reported to the police.

Videos of people dancing during the meeting disregarding social distancing were shared online.

His arrest comes hours after a senator pleaded guilty to violating curfew orders and was fined by a court.

The senator resigned from a Covid-19 committee and apologised for violating curfew orders.

Were will be taken to court on Wednesday morning, July 22, 2020.

Were was arrested and detained at Oyugis Police Station for allegedly violating #Covid19 regulations, Nyanza Region Police boss Mwivanda Noah confirms to the Standard newspaper.
