NAIROBI-(MaraviPost)-Two Kenyan police officers have been arrested after shooting two people dead at Soko Ng’ombe market within Garissa Township in a scuffle with area residents.
Garissa Police Commander Alfred Ongnego confirmed the incident that took place of Saturday July 26.
Ongnego said the victims were gunned down during a confrontation between police officers and area residents who were demanding the release of a suspect who had been apprehended by plain-clothed DCI officers which led to the shooting of the two locals.
Commenting on the matter, the National Police Service on Sunday disclosed that investigations with input from IPOA and ODPP will be established to find out whether it was justifiable for the officers to use firearms or not.
Digital Citizen report indicated that IPOA Chairperson Ann Makori in a statement on Saturday said the Authority had dispatched its Rapid Investigations Team to the area to establish the circumstances that led to the fatal shootings.
Authorities are expected to make appropriate recommendations upon completion of the investigation.
