It did not take long for Malawians on social media to find Lazarus Chakwera’s words when he was in opposition demanding Peter Mutharika release Kalindo.

“Whether or not what the Bon Kalindo said about Peter Mutharika was an insult is not the issue. The issue is that this idea of arresting any Malawian, not to say anything of one who is a parliamentarian, for merely expressing how they feel about the illogical conduct of Mutharika’s failed government, is primitive, unacceptable, and stupid. In fact, whatever unjust law is cited to empower such a ludicrous idea is equally primitive, unacceptable, and stupid, and will thus be repealed by my government.” wrote leader Chakwera
These utterances have today saved Bon Kalindo as Homeland Security Minister, Richard Chimwendo Banda has confirmed talking to Inspector General of Police George Kainja on the warrant of arrest of Bon Kalindo; saying the Police Chief has pledged to withdraw it.
The Minister says it is the policy of the current government (It was not until its hypocrisy was about to be revealed) to desist from enforcement of laws that boarder on stifling freedoms enshrined in the constitution.
National Police spokesperson James Kadadzera has confirmed that police have a warrant of arrest for the outspoken political and rights activist Kalindo for allegedly insulting President Lazarus Chakwera when addressing demonstrators at the Blantyre District Commissioner’s office on Friday.
