LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-As many Malawians continue showering their disappointments with the speech made by the Army Commander, General Vincent Nundwe in Salima threatening soldiers not to voice out their concerns over the country’s economic crisis, the United Democratic Front (UDF) has added salt to it.
The UDF has described the speech as not in line with the mandate of the Army of not involving itself into politics saying what was spoken by General Nundwe is pure politics which must not be accepted in the Malawi Defence Force [MDF].
Speaking at a jam parked Njamba Freedom Park on Sunday, UDF President Atupele Muluz said the Army Commander is interfering with the work of the soldiers by involving himself into active politics asking him to leave politics to politicians.
In his speech, Nundwe responding to little known Pastor Vincent Mapasi prophecy, warn soldiers to desist from going to politicians to lobby for promotions saying the Army has its chain of command of promoting soldiers.
Social media commentators said the Army Commander made his speech more similar like a Regional Governor of the party saying he would have not commented because his Acting Public Information Officer, Major Emmanuel Kelvin Mlelemba already issued a statement of the same.
This comes as amid an audio clip circulating on the social media that some ex-MDF soldiers planned to stage a coup de tat to take over the President Lazarus Chakwera’s Tonse government.
Nundwe is being advised not take political matters into army but rather leave Chakwera start listening to the cries and suffering of Malawians who are sailing through in a sea of sky-rocketing prices of commodities.
In his speech, Atupele Muluzi advised General Nundwe that if he had problems, he could have written a memo containing all the issues and concerns of the soldiers to his Commander in Chief, President Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera other standing on a podium and speaking politics.
“Malawi has been at peace for 57 years of the country’s independence, Malawians don’t war saying he find it no reason to threaten soldiers, everyone is crying and suffering, ” said Muluzi.
But, a concerned citizen from the North based in South Africa, Pastor Charles Ben Longwe, asked General Nundwe to resign and join the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) as its Regional Governor so that he should be free to speak politics and leave the soldiers alone.
