LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Kaliyeka Ward Councillor Richard Banda is now Lilongwe city mayor after dislodging former Mayor Juliana Kaduya in an election held held on Wednesday, December 22, 2021.

Banda who is Malawi Congress Party (MCP) councilor has been deputising Kaduya during her four year-tenure but has since ascended to the high office after amassing 13 votes against his former boss’s six votes.

Banda will be deputised by Councillor Esther Sagawa of Chimutu Ward who amassed 17 votes, beating other six contenders for the position.

The new Mayor Banda has therefore promised Lilongwe residents to see change in service delivery during his tenure of office.

Kaduya however conceded the defeat.
