Malawi court convicts opposition DPP governor David Kambalame for assaulting Mkaka

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Lilongwe Senior Resident Magistrate on Friday, April 29, 2022, sentenced David Kambalame, Opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Governor for Central region to 1 year Imprisonment for assaulting Eisenhower Mkaka Secretary General for Malawi Congress Party (MCP).

This follows as Kambalame assaulted Mkaka right at the police premises on April 11, 2020.

David Kambalame jailed one year

The Court has however, suspended the sentence to six months considering some factors which include the age of the convict, he is the first offender, the case is misdemeanor and that the convict has already lost political power and business.

Mkaka dragged Kambalame 53, to court last year seeking courts intervention on the humiliation he suffered.

Passing the rulling Senior Resident Magistrate Shyreen Chirwa, Senior Resident Magistrate Florence Msekandiana said the convict deserves the custodial sentence because as a political figure he was supposed to uphold moral standards.

Speaking to Maravi post Oscar Taulo Lawyer representing Kambalame has Expressed gratitude towards the judgement by the court.
