LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Based on Malawi and the State of Israel’s Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on labour export, the country is expected to send 500 youths to Tel Aviv in the first phase.

This is the first recruitment that will not involve private agencies as the government has taken full charge of the recruitment.

Ministry of Labour, Director of Administration, Paul Kalilombe told Public Accounts Committee of Parliament (PAC) that interviews for 500 youths were conducted on July 29 this year.

Kalilombe added that the country will send the youths upon Israel’s approval to meet the 3,000 demands.

“According to the Memorandum of Understanding which was signed between the Malawi Government and the States of Israel, there will be no Private Agencies be involved in the recruitment process and only 500 youths are ready for the next phase,” said Commissioner.

He said the issue of resources is delaying the training of the youths as payment is done at the accountant general.

PAC Chairperson Mark Bottomani said the committee is convinced with government processes for young people to be employed in Israel.

Bottomani however said the committee is concerned about the recruitment processes are being handled.

“We have reports of favoritism, and people going to Israel without proper liquate qualifications,” said Bottomani.

He has asked the ministry to keep updating the nation to avoid hearsay on the Israel recruitment deal.

Recently, Youth and Society (YAS) intervened on the matter by petitioning the government on the progress of Israel youth recruitment.
