LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-The Malawi Paralympic Committee (MPC) is undergoing a management restructuring process to accommodate its growth and expansion, says the committee’s president, James Chiutsi.
In an interview, Chiutsi explained that MPC has evolved beyond just having an executive committee and regional committees.
The organization has now established district-level committees in nearly half of Malawi’s districts to support various sports disciplines.
“MPC has traditionally focused on athletics, particularly track events for visually impaired athletes, as well as wheelchair basketball, sitting volleyball, chess for the blind, and powerlifting.
“However, we have not yet expanded into other areas of athletics, such as high jump and throwing events. This restructuring will allow us to manage these expansions effectively,” Chiutsi said.
He further stated that, in the past, the executive committee could handle the administration of sports due to the limited number of disciplines.
However, with the growing number of sports codes, each with its own unique demands, it has become increasingly difficult for the executive alone to manage everything.
“As a result, we are establishing dedicated committees for each sport to ensure better coordination. These committees will engage directly with coaches and volunteers, making administration more efficient. This structure will allow us to nurture talent from the grassroots level,” he explained.
Chiutsi expressed optimism that the restructuring process will be completed before April 1, 2025, when the new operational year for MPC begins.
