Malawi Presidential election case update: MCP witness Bendulo unaware of original copy, carbon copy

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-In the ongoing election case, Malawi Congress Party (MCP) does not understand a simple thing.

The party’s witness Anthony Bendulo is saying that you cannot use a carbon copy but an original.

In the elections, originals were all submitted to the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) national tally centre.

Therefore the parties in the constituencies had to use the duplicate.

This is simple equation. One document cannot be with two people or in two places at the same time.

In other words, no original would have been at MEC national tally centre while also being at a tally centre at a constituency or polling station.

So if the original is somewhere, those with the access to the carbon copy use it.

There is a reason why there are carbon copies – it is to make sure that you have a duplicate of the original, which may no longer be accessible by the time you need it.

Carbon copies are also a record and back-up of the original. They are not fake because they are carbon copies. They are a counter or reference record for the original.

There is nothing illegal about a carbon copy.
