BLANTYRE (Maravipost)--The Council for NGOs in Malawi (Congoma) has swallowed its pride by cancelling its fundraising dinner to pave way for the launch and

fundraising dinner for First Lady Gertrude Matharika’s Beautify Malawi Trust this Saturday.

Congoma’s fundraising dinner and dance was slated for September 12 while the one for Beautify Malawi trust, to be hosted by the First Lady, is set for September 13 at Kamuzu Palace Grand Marquee in Lilongwe.

President Peter Mutharika and vice president Saulos Chilima are expected to grace the Trust’s fundraising dinner.

“It is, therefore, NGOs considered view that the community cannot hold two identical Non Governmental activities of its highest levels in a space of less than 24hours especially considering the financial status that Malawians are facing this time around,” said Voice Mhone, Congoma Chairperson.

Mhone, while apologising to those that made pledges towards fundraising venture, said patrons who had already paid for the event will get back their money by September 12.

Congoma had also earmarked Chilima as guest of honour.

Meanwhile, Gertrude Mutharika said BEAM launch will rally together all Malawians, corporate world and development partners towards working together for a cleaner and healthier Malawi.

“Through Beautify Malawi (BEAM) Trust, the Patron and Chairperson, First Lady Gertrude Mutharika envisions a Malawi where waste will be managed better for a healthier you.

“Funds raised will kick start BEAM’s dream of making our country cleaner and healthier,” said Chimango Chirwa, Organising Committee Chairperson.
