LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Malawi is expected to have normal and above normal rainfall staring from October, 2022 through March 2023.

Department of Climate change and Meteorological Services Director Lucy Mtilatira told the news conference in the capital Lilongwe on Thursday, September 15, 2022 that this year’s weather focus has been down scaled to districts.

DODMA and Climate Department addressing the news conference

Mtilatira disclosed that in December some areas will likely to have less rains but January through February will have heavy rainfall.

She therefore advised communities to take weather focus seriously as shared to districts.

However, the Department’s forecast released also indicates that the country may experience La Nina conditions which would enhance rains in Southern Africa which may include Southern Malawi.

However, according to the projection, dry spells will be experienced across the country during the month of January with a dry spell of more than ten days over parts of Mchinji, Lilongwe, and Nsanje.

Department of Disaster and Management Affairs (DODMA)’s commissioner Charles Kalemba assured the nation of his office preparedness in any disasters that might strike in the coming growing season.

Kalemba therefore advised the general public to refrain from living disasters prone areas.
