Malawi VP Chimulirenji bankrolls MK30 million for Inkosi Gomani’s Dubai honeymoon

By Nenenji Mlangeni

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Malawi Vice President Everton Chimulirenji has spent a whopping MK30 million on a honeymoon for newly wedded Inkosi Gomani to Dubai.

Chimulirenji, trying to impress everyone at Gomani’s wedding in Ntcheu on November 2 said he was going to sponsor the honeymoon of the Ngoni king and his wife Rishaladza.

“The bill is almost MK30 million and counting and Chimulirenji paid the money and we are expecting him to send some more,” said an officer at his office in Lilongwe.

“I can tell you that this is not his own money, we have used money from the office to pay for this expenditure which we did not plan,” he added.

Chimulirenji has been embroiled in a scandal for using MK100 million in ‘urgent expenses’ for the month of November alone.

Political analysts have questioned how Chimulirenji has acquired so much money in a space of six months on a MK1.5 million salary.

“We all know that during campaign he did not have money, President Peter Mutharika used to fund his campaign meetings and all of a sudden he is sponsoring honeymoons. Where is he getting the money? Wondered a political analyst who did not want to be named.

“There is too much plunder going on. Our leaders do no love this country. I could not believe it when the Vice President instructed us to use office money to pay for Inkosi Gomani’s honeymoon,” said the officer at the VP office.

Chimulirenji starts using the MK100 million allocation with a shoddy function where he is going to receive books from UNESCO in rural Chiradzulu district.

Many believe that Chimulirenji has started positioning himself for 2024 elections by increasing his visibility especially in the rural areas by conducting petty functions.
