BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-As University of Malawi (UNIMA) and non-UNIMA social media debate continue to rages on, law expert and former Judiciary Spokesperson Mlenga Mvula has urged both sides to stop embarrassing the nation with useless debate but rather concentrate on serious issues that can help developing Malawi.
Mvula observes that Malawians are always obsessed with trivia.

“There are a number of issues that are affecting our day to day livelihoods and need solutions. But the Citizenry are busy making harsh debates on issues that can not even develop the nation.
” As citizenry, we have real issues affect our day today livelihoods. We have pandemic amidst us. We have socia-economic problems affecting us, emanating from global challenges. We better unite and find solutions to such issues rather than these useless debates,” says Mvula.
Mvula added that being University of Malawi (UNIMA) graduate does not place someone higher in the society than those attended private universities, colleges.
He further says success is subjective and has got so many underlying indicators including personal, community and national levels.
Mvula cited people who are great and successful in society without university degrees.
“Bill Gates, a co-founder of Microsoft is a University dropout . He enrolled at Havard University in 1973, but two years later dropped. He does not hold a degree, but could be described as successful. A similar example is Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Facebook. Yes, he is a billionaire without a university degree.
“Michael Dell is another person without a degree, but he is a CEO of Dell Technologies, both desktops and laptops most people are using to banter another one. The list is endless. Let us use our energies on innovation rather than trivia,” he says.
Malawi has spent the weekend bickering over the University of Malawi (UNIMA) following accusations by Social Media Influencer Kelvin Silungwe who posted on his Facebook that the university’s graduates are the reason Malawi is richly basking in poverty and other social and political miseries.
The post has generated a buzz on the platform. Some of those who walked through the corridors of the University of Malawi (UNIMA) came with guns blazing to defend their contributions in the country.
