LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) is reporting of a slow utilization of a waiver of duty on goods not exceeding 3000 US dollars as the duty-free week which begun on Sunday, January 23, 2022.
MRA’s Commissioner General, John Bizwick says the authority is monitoring the situation hoping that the trend will pickup in the final days of the week as most Malawians are still showing interest to import goods duty free.
An economic expert, Dr Betchani Tcheleni attributes low participation of Malawians in the week to conditions that were set while suggesting that lowering the tax rate for a certain period was a way to go as this would reduce prices of commodities on the market.
