LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Over 40 percent of the faith leaders are on life prolonging drug, Anti Retrovirus drug (ART), Malawi interfaith Aids Association (MIAA) has revealed.

MIAA Executive Director, Pilira Ndaferankhande told Parliamentary Committee on Health, Thursday January 26, 2022 that the number has been revealed due to the interface of the association with the leaders.

Ndaferankhande said the interface has helped more leaders to come out and reveal their statuses.

She said this has helped the association to encourage those that on ART to continue staying on treatment regardless of their faith.

Ndaferankhande said MIAA also worked with faith based HIV/AIDS support groups in to disseminating the fight against AIDS.

Chairperson for Parliamentary Committee on Health Mathews Ngwale recommend MIAA for the effort saying will prevent the denial of faith based leaders on the pandemic.

Ngwale said faith leaders happen to be in fore front of stopping their members to stop taking ART which has cost many lives but with the training MIAA is engaging on the their mindset will be changed.
