HRDC coaches Mzuni students on demos

MZUZU-(MaraviPost)-The country’s Human Rights Defenders Coalition (HRDC) has inspired Mzuzu University students to always remember their rights and responsibilities in order for them to take rightful decisions whenever they are shortchanged.

HRDC Chairperson for the north, Happy Mhango was speaking during an orientation which the organisation arranged for the varsity students to help them know how to demonstrate peacefully whenever they want to do so.

Mhango said it is very necessary for the students to know what steps to follow whenever they want to hold demonstrations and inform all the relevant authorities such as the Police, the City Council as well as the university authorities forty two hours before the demonstrations begin.

One of the students who attended the orientation, Victor Okoma, said the orientation has opened their eyes on how best they can exercise their birth rights.

Meanwhile, students at the university are planning to open an HRDC Chapter at the campus.

On 28th October this , Mzuzu University Management suspended fourteen students for allegedly conducting illegal demos at the campus.
