BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-Malawi’s Leader of opposition and Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) vice president for the South Kondwani Nankhumwa says is not fazed with the move by former Reserve Bank of Malawi (RBM) governor Dalitso Kabambe for joining DPP in anticipation to contest for the party’s presidency during convention and presidential ticket in 2025.

Kabambe officially joined the opposition party on Thursday, December 31, 2020 at the party’s southern region offices.

Nankhumwa told Maravi Post that it is Kabambe’s democratic right to join the party and to contest on any position.

“It’s his democratic right to contest on any position he wishes,” he said.

He further said he has read reports on social media that kabambe is former President Peter Mutharika’s choice but he choose to not be shaken, because delegates at the convention are the ones to choose.

“People will have their democratic right to choose, the reports on social media does not hold water because delegates at the convention will decide whom to anoint,” said Nankhumwa.

Kabambe for DPP Presidency

Commenting on his absence at Kabambe’s welcoming celemony, he said he was not invited.

DPP has been sailing in troubled waters since the party lost the June 23 fresh presidential election.

Some sections within the party have since call for an early convection to settle the leadership questions within the party.
