KARONGA (Maravi Post)—Traditional Authority (TA) Kilipula in Karonga has dethroned seven group village headmen within some few months of his leadership, Maravi Post can reveal. The seven have been accused of insubordination.According to our source, the seven are said to be supporting the T/A’s rival Poshana Mwantende who is positioning himself to take over the throne of TA Kilipula after it fell vacant due to death.

Maravipost correspondent in the district has found that Karonga District Commissioner (DC) Rosemary Moyo failed to handle the matter after the concerned Chiefs summoned the T/A to her office early this month.

The suspended chiefs are those who have been there for some years before the installation of the incumbent T/A.

During the meeting, it was revealed that some of the subjects of the concerned Chiefs have been denied their rights of receiving social development such as relief items.

“Go back to your area and reconcile,” said Moyo as part of distancing herself.

The incumbent Traditional Authority Kilipula asked for the evidence from the accusers saying “the story is not true.”

According to some quarters in the district, the DC’s failure to handle the matter may fuel the wrangle between the two sides.

This reporter has found that there was also bloodshed and a house was destroyed between Mwakilunga and his opponent Mwantende during their campaign in 2015 after the Mzuzu high court ruled in favor of the incumbent.
