MULANJE (Maravi Post)—The resignation of the Mulanje South Member of Parliament (MP) as the deputy spokesperson of the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has brought chaos and divisions in the party Maravi Post can reveal. On Thursday last week, Kalindo resigned as the deputy spokesperson of the party after being summoned by the party’s officials over his naked demo recently.
According to our source, the development to have Kalindo resign has raised eyebrows of
DPP members as the party’s supporters in the constituency are behind Kalindo’s decision of holding his successful naked demonstrations against the killing and abduction of albinos.
“We support what our MP did and we also demand for the introduction of death penalty to the perpetrators,” said Yobe Makomeza (DPP constituency chairperson).
This grass root’s support for Kalindo has made the party’s officials to dissolve the current DPP committees in Kalindo’s constituency.
“We have indeed planned to dissolve the current committees in the Mulanje south west but this is
normal,” confirmed Charles Mchacha (DPP regional governor in the south).
The said committees have threatened to protest if their officials will continue with their plan.
Kalindo has also confirmed to this reporter about the officials’ plan of dissolving the committee but denied to comment further claiming “what I know is that I am still a member of the party.”
Some quarters say that the dissolution of committees symbolizes the dismissal of Kalindo in the party.
