THYOLO-(MaraviPost)-Authorities on Thursday closed Thyolo Secondary School for a thorough investigation on what really triggered students at the school to set alight part of the same.
According to the Spokesperson in the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology (MoEST), Lindiwe Chide, the Ministry has decided to close the institution down so that a full scale investigation is carried out and establish what angered the learners.
On Thursday this week, the general public had a rude awakening upon hearing that students at the said institution went on rampage and set ablaze the administration block, two teachers’ houses, hostels and the matron’s house.
Reports from Thyolo Police indicate that some students were dismissed by authorities at the school on disciplinary grounds such as using cellophanes, teasing and bullying the Form One students, and this angered the other students who ganged up for the naughty action.
Meanwhile, four students are in police custody at Thyolo Police Station.
Last month, authorities also closed down Blantyre Secondary School after students held demonstrations, accusing top administrators at the school of gross mismanagement.
