Why is Malawi’s Vice President criticising a government of which he still is a member? HARDtalk’s Zeinab Badawi speaks to Vice President Saulos Chilima.

According to information garnered from press officer in the Office of the Vice-President in Malawi, Pilirani Phiri, There are a number private and public engagements that the Vice President is undertaking but the London Political Summit is not one of them,” he said.

The Vice President is also expected to hold talks with Malawians in diaspora as well separately meet members of the UTM UK chapter which is led by Dr Aubrey Makhalira.

Zeinab Badawi born 24 November 1959 is a Sudanese-British television and radio journalist. She was the first presenter of the ITV Morning News (now known as ITV News at 5:30), and co-presented Channel 4 News with Jon Snow (1989–98), before joining BBC News. Badawi was the presenter of World News Today broadcast on both BBC Four and BBC World News, and Reporters, a weekly showcase of reports from the BBC

  1. The essence of these talks by @zainab is to place you in a tight corner until you spit some ill motive or semblance of truth ! I recall president Mutharika on this seat it was a massive catastrophe! Chilima articulated his side of things amidst jabs and constant interruptions I do give him props for standing the heat ! Malawi is in ICU for all natural resources and peace we surely should not always feature on the third poorest country in the world ! We need a game changer .

  2. I have listened to the episode – it’s a disaster. At one point, the presenter tells Chilima that according to World Bank and IMF, Malawi under APM has done very well economically. In response, Chilima says he wouldn’t give credit to one man. Yet when it comes to corruption, Chilima says that’s what he wants to fight. Question: is he going to fight corruption as one man? Secondly, by saying he cannot give credit to one man for positive developments, is it not the leadership that propels development? It’s total disaster. Was he drunk again?
