The runner-up in Malawi’s 2025 presidential election, Michael Usi, has congratulated Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika and Dr. Jane Ansah on their victory in the recent polls.

Usi stated that he is ready to hand over the responsibilities and powers of his office to the newly elected leaders.

According to an official statement authored and signed by Usi, it is now clear that Professor Mutharika has won the election based on the votes cast by Malawians, as confirmed by results released by the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) so far.

Usi emphasized that the voice of the Malawian people is paramount, and that their wishes should be respected by all political stakeholders.

He expressed his best wishes to the incoming administration of Mutharika and Ansah, urging them to serve the nation diligently and provide good governance.

Usi, who contested the elections on the ticket of his Odya Zake Alibe Mlandu party, recognized the importance of maintaining political respect and upholding democratic principles in the post-election period.

Concluding Analysis

Usi’s congratulations reflect a commitment to political maturity and peaceful transition, signaling a positive precedent for democratic consolidation in Malawi.

By formally acknowledging Mutharika and Ansah’s victory, Usi reinforces the legitimacy of the electoral process and encourages public confidence in the democratic system.

His gesture may also foster collaboration between opposition figures and the new administration, promoting inclusive governance and stability.

Analysts suggest that such acts of political respect are critical for sustaining national unity, ensuring that post-election development priorities are pursued without partisan obstruction.

For Malawians, Usi’s acknowledgment of the results underscores the value of respecting the electorate’s will and the importance of constructive engagement across the political spectrum.
