LILONGWE, Maravipost   Following the sudden death of Nayuchi suspect Samalani Waliwa, 32, the Machinga community has been waiting for his postmortem. However, Mozambican police officers did not arrive at Zomba District Hospital.

In an interview with Maravipost on Friday, January 17, Ester Jolobala, the Member of Parliament for Machinga East, stated that Waliwa’s body had been kept at Zomba Mortuary since Monday, January 10, awaiting postmortems from both Malawian and Mozambican pathologists.

Jolobala mentioned that she and the deceased’s relatives went to the hospital at the request of the Nayuchi police unit, only to find that the Mozambican police officers and pathologists were absent. After inquiring with the hospital staff, they learned that the hospital had received a message indicating that the Mozambican officials were not ready to attend.

Jolobala condemned the Mozambique police officers and pathologist’s action, noting that it had caused them to waste fuel, as the distance traveled was two hundred kilometers.

As of now, Jolobala and the relatives of the deceased remain at Zomba Hospital, waiting for the Mozambican officials to arrive so they can conduct the postmortem and take the body for burial.

Waliwa died three hours in Mozambique custody after being taken from the Nayuchi police unit while he was in good health, in connection with burglary offenses committed in Mozambique.
