LILONGWE, (MaraviPost): The Malawi President who was declared by Jane Ansah Chairperson of MEC as the winner of the May 21st elections has categorically through his lawyers in a press release denied any involvement with bribing the judges overseeing the election case.

The following was the full Presser:

We, the Lawyers for HE Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika, the 1st Respondent in the ongoing elections case currently in the High Court sitting as a Constitutional Court in Lilongwe, have closely followed the recent events regarding the allegations to bribe the Honourable Judges presiding in the Constitutional Case.

Our Client wishes to place on record that he is completely dismayed by the said alleged efforts at bribing the Honourable Judges.

Our Client, as the Custodian of the Constitution of the Republic of Malawi, strongly believes that the Judiciary must be allowed to decide cases without pressure, inducements or any extraneous factors.

He further believes that the Court must decide the case purely based on the facts properly adduced before it and the applicable laws.

Our Client therefore condemns any alleged efforts or attempts by any of the parties to influence the Honourable Judges in discharging their judicial responsibilities.

Our Client maintains his faith in the independence and integrity of the Judiciary and calls upon all Malawians to refrain from any actions that would compromise the independence and integrity of the Judiciary in any case before it.
