Lilongwe, February 1: President Prof Peter Mutharika held consultations with over 14 African Heads of State on Malawi’s state in regard to damages caused by floods.
Mutharika disclosed this on Sunday afternoon at Kamuzu International Airport on his arrival from Addis Ababa where he attended 24th summit of the African Union.
“The issue concerning our country’s state of affairs was brought up and I held meetings with over 14 heads of state on the same,” said the first citizen adding that the meetings proved that Malawi had strong bilateral ties with the rest of Africa.
On a different note, the head of state also disclosed that one of the issues tabled at the summit was about how best African countries can help bring peace in Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
He thus said Malawi remained committed to peace enhancement and that it would, in the same commitment, keep sending peace keeping troops to DRC.
On a lighter note, he quashed out speculation that Malawi would send peace keeping troops to Nigeria to help fight against the militant group of Boko Haram.
He said Boko Haram issue was a distant one and much as it was brought up during the summit, it was not of primary concern to Malawi.
Delivering his maiden speech while at the summit, Mutharika also condemned as uncivilized and old fashioned, the tendency of men who still batter their wives in this modern Society.
The Malawi leader left for the summit on Wednesday, 28 January and the summit ended on Saturday, 31 January.
