In a surprise move, Inkosi Chindi has dissolved the offices of some of his representatives in Mzimba over remarks they made about the Mzimba Central constituency primary elections.

The decision comes after some chiefs under Inkosi Chindi’s leadership held a press briefing on Monday, declaring that the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) would not be allowed to hold primary elections in the area.

The chiefs’ decision was aimed at preventing violence among supporters of aspiring candidates, following clashes during the earlier primaries on May 11. However, Inkosi Chindi has since condemned the violence but emphasized that cancelling the primaries is not a solution. He stressed the need for a fair and transparent election process where all candidates have an equal chance.

One of the dismissed representatives, Lumbani Jere, said he has not received any official communication regarding his removal. Jere maintained his earlier stance against political violence, saying that the chiefs’ decision was aimed at maintaining peace in the area.

Inkosi Chindi’s decision to dissolve the offices of his representatives has sparked mixed reactions in the community. Some have welcomed the move, saying that it will help to restore confidence in the traditional leadership.

Others, however, have expressed concern that the decision may create more problems than it solves.

Mulumuzana Mhlaba Soko, a prominent figure in the community, has called on political leaders and the community to focus on development instead of political conflicts. Soko urged the MCP National Executive Committee (NEC) to re-run the primaries to ensure fair competition among candidates.

“The community needs to come together and focus on development issues that affect us all,” Soko said, adding that,”We cannot afford to be divided by political differences when there are more pressing issues that require our attention.”

The Mzimba Central constituency primary elections have been marred by controversy, with allegations of violence and irregularities.

The MCP has been urged to ensure that the elections are conducted in a free and fair manner, and that all candidates are given an equal opportunity to participate.

Inkosi Chindi’s decision to dissolve the offices of his representatives is seen as a bid to restore order and stability in the area.

It remains to be seen how the community will react to the decision and whether it will lead to a more peaceful and harmonious election process.
