MZUZU (MaraviPost)—Mzuzu University Football club (Mzuni FC) which is popularly known as The Green Intellectuals seems to be leaving no stone unturned in its campaign to remain in the country’s top flight league after beating Moyale Barracks by 2 goals to 1 on Sunday at Mzuzu Stadium.
Moyale Barracks FC was the first to open the score sheet 8 minutes into the first half. Mzuni FC however blown up a clear chance in the 33rd minute when Lughindiko Mushani missed a penalty the referee awarded them when their danger man Wacheta Mwenefumbo was fouled in the box. The first half ended with Moyale Barracks leading.
The student’s team came a rejuvenated side in the second half of the match as they piled a lot of pressure on their opponents such that the Kaning’ina Lions were left with the only option of succumbing to the pressure which saw Wacheta Mwenefumbo scoring a beauty to level the score board in the 55rd minute.
With 10 minutes before the end of the game, Lughindiko Mushani had his sin of missing the penalty forgiven, when he scored the winning goal for the students much to wild jubilation of Mzuni fans who thronged to the stadium in large numbers to give maximum support to their beloved team on their struggle to still remain in the TNM super League.
After the game, the soldiers, frustrated with a second loss in the hands of the rookies, went amok and attempted to manhandle the referee accusing him of poor officiation. Mzuni FC fans who attempted to protect the referee form the irate soldiers were also on the firing line of the soldier’s skirmishes as they bayed for the blood of the referee.
