Civo United lifts Standard Bank cup after beating Mighty Wanderers 1-0

LILONGWE (MaraviPost)—The patience for Civo Service United FC to remain in victory drought came to its expiry on Sunday after beating the former reigning champions of the Standard Bank cup – the Mighty BeForward Wanderers by 1 goal to nil before a jam packed Civo Stadium in Malawi’s capital Lilongwe.

The game started on a high note with Mighty Wanderers blowing a lot of chances which sent its coach, Eliya Kananji regretting in an interview with reporters after the defeat.

The lone goal came from striker Nelson Kangunje in the 88th minute and the Civil Servants’ team cemented their long overdue victory by jealously defending their goal to the last whistle. As expected, the victory sent the Civo United fans into wild jubilation typical of a team revamping from victory deficiency.

Civo United has not been performing well in the TNM super league but they kept focusing and eventually started winning matches.

Perhaps the team’s secret was to keep the winning formula for it was surely not a fluke for them to become champions today for they humbled another football power house in the country, Big Bullets to reach to the finals of the cup.
